The martial arts, to be truthful, were developed in third world countries. Of course, a hundred years ago, let alone a thousand or two, every country was a third world country. The unfortunate truth this leads to, however, is that the martial arts are taught using old, ancient and outdated methods.

A fellow is told to practice the horse stance. He is given horse stance forms to do. And, after a few years, sure enough, he becomes able to grip the ground pert good.

But...why wasn't he just given the data necessary to create an energy beam? Yeah, breath to the center and make the energy grow. Now, shoot beams down your legs and make a real connection with the ground.

And, if he has trouble, give him more data and create more understanding. Show him how to twist the legs so that he can make energy reach the ground. Show him how to push the legs so so that he can make energy come from the ground.

oh, I forgot, the old Chinese didn't have the knowledge of modern physics necessary to describe what an energy beam was and how to build it with the body. Uh, I guess we should tell the truth, they didn't have any physics at all. They had some pretty good mysticism, though, they did have that!

The truth, however, is that mysticism is made up reasons for things you don't really understand. Mysticism comes from mystery, you see. And the methods of the ancients, shared by well meaning instructors, are based on the things that they didn't understand, or at least lacked a language to describe.

Oh, people still get the teachings, sort of. But it takes a lifetime. It takes a lifetime, and even then, if the student doesn't have the ability to discern and differentiate the tricks of language, he is going to pass on the same old tricks that enlighten a few, and befuddle the many.

Fa Jing, the One Inch Punch, Explosive Power

Bruce Lee held his fist one inch from the chest of his partner, punched, and his partner flew back six feet. The Tai Chi student placed his palms on the torso of his partner, pushed, and his partner flew up into the air. The old master stood six feet away from the student and aimed his palm, and the student scrunched up, tweaked and jerked, and flew away.

Interestingly, these anecdotes are all based on the same thing. Bruce Lee achieved his ability through the study of Wing Chun, but it is not limited to Wing Chun. I have seen students of karate, and other arts, who could do the same thing to lesser or greater degree.

In the internal arts the ability known as fa jing is nothing more than a variation of explosive power. The difference is internal stylists practice exploding power through other body parts than just the punch. They can use fa jing through hips and shoulders and elbows and whatever body part they wish to use.

The secret of fa jing is to assume a solid stance, push slightly up the legs so that the body moves as little as possible, yet with authority and solid weight. The energy of the push hits the tan tien, which is the energy center, which likes the power and aids it and pushes it through the rest of the body. The body parts coursing the explosive power must be trained to pulse the power quickly and efficiently.

To pulse power imagine a train running into a monster wall. The string of freight cars collide, bang, bang, bang, and each add their weight and power to the collision. Now tweak that concept a little, and imagine the parts of your body being thrust forward so that they all collide at the same time.

This is a matter of exquisite timing, but understanding the theory doesn't take a long time. To be truthful, I learned it through my studies of karate. Nobody told me about the concept, I just studied long enough, and eventually fell into the thing.

Now, it really helps if you can set up your partner so that the power of the technique easily upsets his position. One way is just to adjust his body slightly so that he can no longer retain his balance. Another way is to pull or push slightly and set up a resistance within his body which can, in turn, be pushed or pulled with.

I've made a study of this particular subject, and it is actually in the Master Instructor Course that I offer. The surprising thing, however, is that nobody else has ever made a study like this. I suppose it is a matter of when does somebody actually attain sufficient perception, and when a person is actually ready to receive the teaching. - 30300

They are bold veteran MMA fighters with a pretty expansive history in the UFC. Which Franklin gets into the battle with a record of 27 victories, four losses, and zero draws. Vitor Bellfort comes into the UFC 103 Arena with a record of 12 wins and five losses.

This should be a great engagement as their expressive styles match up pretty well with each other. I would give the sharpness to Vitor Belfort just because it seems like he's on more of a successful streak and appears to have more self-confidence coming to the scrap. Vitor has not fought in the UFC since 2005 and lost to Tito Ortiz in a split conclusion. His previous 5 before that any of discover was another exit to Randy Couture with a TKO stoppage.

Vitor Belfort just recently came back to the UFC after an extended since fighting other organizations and his last actual struggle had a solid battle against Matt Lindlin. Vitor knockout Matt in the first round would really boost his confidence in his battle against Rich Franklin.

I think that Rich Franklin may be on the down side of his career. He recently had a good battle against Vanderlei Silva in which Rich Franklin actually defeated Silva by decision. Even though he won, I think he looked a little bit sloppy in his performance. We'll have to see how Rich Franklin does in this engagement. Needless to say, he still has the skills to take care of Belfort, but I think that Belfort will end up the victor.

On other cards, Mike Swick has been pulled out of UFC 103 on September 19, 2009, due to a concussion he got when he was sparring this last week. He landed on his back of his head and neck and suffered a pretty serious concussion. It looks like EliteXC scrapper Paul Daley will replace Swick in the scrap against Martin Kampman. Martin Kampman is on a roll lately and looks great against any of the fighters at 170. Paul Daley said I have a handful coming from elite XC to the UFC.

The undercard of Dos Santos vs Crocop should be a great struggle. Pro-cop has fallen to the wayside since he came over from Pride. In fact in his last fight, he only won because he poked his opponent in the eye and attacked before the ref could even stop the struggle. Obviously the ref didn't discover the eye poke. Most spiders though it typically stopped when they poke someone in the eye, but not Crocop. He attacked Al-Turka when he couldn't even discover. What a cheap combatant Crocop is. I think he was just so determined for a deliver the goods that he didn't care whether he you want in a cheap style or not. I hope he gets his face wiped on the mat by Dos Santos. - 30300
